Your donation to the Climate Disaster Project will support the operations of our international teaching newsroom. It will cover the costs of our students working in the field with disaster survivors. Those costs include professional transcription, editing, photojournalism, and videography services, as well the travel, lodging, and filing freedom of information request fees.

The work of the Climate Disaster Project is coordinated at the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Fine Arts.

Yes, you will receive a tax receipt from the University of Victoria, where the Climate Disaster Project is coordinated.

Generally speaking, a sponsor will support a portion of the costs of preparing climate disaster survivor Testimonies, which averages CA$500 per survivor. This includes the 16.5 hours required to interview a survivor, transcribe that interview, adapt it into an “as-told-to” article, and edit it. It excludes the costs of photojournalism or videography services supporting those Testimonities. The sponsor and the Climate Disaster Project will then work together to disseminate those Testimonies in a manner consistent with our trauma-informed process and the commitments we’ve made to the survivors we’ve worked with. The sponsor will be recognized as part of that dissemination process. The Climate Disaster Project can also support the training of communities that wish to share their own stories with one another using our process.
